One-Day Canoeing Adventure in Algonquin Park

Short on time but craving a refreshing escape into nature? This one-day canoeing and wilderness exploration excursion in the heart of Algonquin Provincial Park is the perfect getaway that provides a balance of nature and excitement in a small group setting. Designed for those eager to immerse themselves in the wild beauty of Ontario, this tour blends canoeing, search for wildlife, and a bit of adventure into an unforgettable experience of Algonquin's serene beauty. It is a peaceful family-friendly experience, and solo travellers, couples, groups of freinds and families with young children are all welcome!

Itinerary

  • Duration: total of 6 hours, there is appr. 4.5 hours of canoeing plus portage and time for relaxation at scenic spots
  • Highlights: Exploration of Algonquin’s nature and heritage, search for wildlife
  • Meeting Location: Canoe Lake beach in Algonquin Provincial Park
  • Lunch: Delicious Montreal smoked meat sandwich with ice tea

     

Your 1-day Adventure is an immersive experience that connects you to both the natural world and the culture of legendary Ontario's wilderness. Our journey begins at the world-famous Canoe Lake, where our guide will meet you. After a brief paddling instruction, you’ll set off on the water, taking in the unfortgettable beauty of the park. The route includes a 150 to 300m portage, where we we will carry our canoes to another lake. The excursion includes a search for wildlife at moose pockets and inlets, visit to amazing beaver ponds and a beaver dam, lakeside breaks at scenic locations and a delicious picnic lunch at a scenic lookout, offering sweeping views of the park's majestic landscape from a cliff*.

*Swimming and cliff jumping will be possible when the weather is good. With heights that range from 1m to 5 m, jumping must be done with extreme care and at your own risk.

Throughout the excursion, your guide will share fascinating stories about Algonquin’s rich history and legacy, and insights into the iconic nature of the park.

Important Information:

  • Vehicle Day-Pass: If you’re driving to the park, be sure to stop by the Algonquin Park Permit Office at West or East Gate entrance to obtain a vehicle day-pass (not included in the tour price).
  • What to Wear: Dress according to the weather and expect to wade into lake  that is about knee-deep. Please check out "What to bring" and "Extra information for tour preparation" for more details.

This adventure is perfect for those with a sense of exploration and a moderate level of fitness.

11:30 AM Exploration of scenic and heritage sites, search for wildlife, visit beaver ponds & a beaver dam
3:00 PM Arrive to a scenic cliff for swimming & lunch

5:30 PM Arrival back to Canoe Lake beach

FAQ

The excursion includes 6 hour guided tour in Algonquin Park, canoe rental, life jacket, basic paddling lesson, lunch.

Transportation to/from Algonquin Park, day parking permit, medical insurance, personal products (insect repellent, sunblock, etc)

MEETING TIME: 11 AM. This is when you must meet your guide. It is approximately 30 minutes
before your departure. This is when you will help your guide to load your canoes.
DEPARTURE TIME: 11:30 AM. This is when you will get your basic canoe lesson and

The meeting location is at Canoe Lake beach (Access Point 5) in Algonquin Park.

Must bring:

• Water sandals – you will walk in rivers up to your knees, flip flops and crocs aren’t OK. Scuba/surfing shoes are OK
• 1 bottle of water, minimum 1.5 liters per person
• Medical Insurance for international guests; provincial health card for Canadian citizens / permanent residents

Should bring also:
• Swimsuit + towel
• Pants / shorts
• Hat to block the sun
• Jacket + Sweatshirt if it is cold or might be windy
• Rain coat + plastic poncho. Please bring one if there is any chance of rain
• Insect repellent, sunblock, headache medicine
• Sunglasses
• Some snacks (chocolate, energy bar, nuts, etc)
• Wet napkins

  • No Glass Bottles (ANY glass bottle)
  • No Metal Cans (including redbull, coke can, tuna can, any metallic
    disposable container)
  • No Music with speakers (headphones are OK)
  • Recreational drugs (weed, edibles,mushrooms etc) Cigarettes and vaping
    are ok
  • No Alcohol (including beer, wine, spirits)

Day parking permit is not included in the excursion, and you must purchase it. Get your parking permit at the East Gate, West Gate or online. You are responsible for
getting your own parking permit and failing to do it might result in park penalties. You can get your
parking permit* in person on the day of your tour at the park's West Gate entrance or East Gate
entrance. The park's daily permit price is $21+ tax per vehicle. It is better to get the permit
online 5 days in advance at: https://www.ontarioparks.ca/fees/dayuse/2025

The trip will proceed regardless of the weather unless the park is closed

You can cancel with a full refund 8 or more days before the excursion. There are no refunds for cancellations made less than 8 days before departure
